Spreading across the eastern part of Nara city, this vast park covers a total area of approximately 660 hectares. It is a majestic park befitting the ancient capital, incorporating Todaiji Temple, Kofuku-ji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, the National Museum, and even the Kasugayama primeval forest. The park is a harmonious blend of beautiful lawns and lush nature, including a grove of 1,000-year-old pine trees. A herd of approximately 1,300 wild deer, named for the legend of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, play here, and it is a tourist spot symbolizing the ancient capital of Nara, attracting many visitors.

The highlight of Naramachi is undoubtedly the atmospheric streetscape lined with townhouses and temples. First, try taking a leisurely stroll and immersing yourself in history. There are plenty of photogenic spots that will make you want to point your camera at them, such as the ambiance of the wooden buildings and the Migawari-monkeys on the eaves! There is also the famous gourmet food, so you can enjoy eating your way around, and we also recommend taking a break and spending some relaxing time in a traditional Japanese cafe or restaurant. There are also many stylish general stores and stores selling local products, so shopping is also an experience not to be missed.
