Is it possible to hike up to the highest peak of Hungary from Budapest in one day? Surprisingly yes! We start from Budapest, take a long bus ride till Mátraháza. From Mátraháza we take a longer uphill walk through beautiful beech forests to reach Kékes, the highest peak. At the top there is a super high telecommunication tower with a panorama terrace with a full view around to make this experience even more outstanding. We start descending from the peak, and on our way we will visit a little andesite cave and the ruins of a small medieval castle. After passing through Mátrafüred, we go up to the iconic Kozmáry-lookout, and enjoy a beautiful landscape back to the Mátra mountains and to the plains in the south.
