The adventure begins inPonta Delgada, where we leave towards Pico do Carvão. This trail, with about 5 kms, starts at the entrance of Mata do Canário, it joins two sections of pre-existing trails and allows you to discover the various lakes in the western part of the island of São Miguel. In the first part of the walking tour it’s possible to see the Muro das Nove Janelas, an ancient aqueduct that carried water to Ponta Delgada. After an ascent through an area where the terrain is more irregular, we can observe a large part of the West side of the island, as well as the collapse crater of Sete Cidades. From this location, in days of really good weather, one can see a large part of the island of São , Miguel. On the return to Ponta Delgada, it is possible to stop at the Viewpoint of Vista do Rei, where you will find a magnificent landscape, of the Lagoa das Sete Cidades . Along the way back, we find green fields until the entrance of Ponta Delgada.

After exploring several lakes around the area with an all-terrain ride travel, along the craters of Sete Cidades, visit the small parish and then continue your way to the sea shore to witness the secondary volcano wonders of hot sea water. Set in the middle of a 3-mile (5-km) wide volcanic crater, Sete Cidades’ forest-blanketed slopes and lake scattered valleys are the ideal place for an off-road adventure. Explore the area with a local guide and make it a special afternoon with a Hiking Trail in Serra Devassa (2h, easy category). This short circular trail begins and ends opposite the Lagoa do Canário and takes about 2 hours to complete. When you reach the top of the hillside, you can see the Lagoa das Éguas to your left, and a small round lake to your right. A little further ahead you will come to a side turn leading to a vantage point, where you can view the two aforementioned lakes, on your left, and the Lagoa Rasa, on your right.
